
Rodrigo Herrera
Born in Mexico City, he began studying classical guitar at the Universidad Veracruzana under the guidance of Cutberto Córdova and Mauricio Hernández. He later moved to Italy to continue his studies with Paolo Pegoraro at the “Francisco Tárrega” Academy and graduated with distinction in the guitar class of Stefano Viola at the “Agostino Steffani” Conservatory in Castelfranco Veneto. His musical training was further enriched by numerous advanced courses with renowned teachers such as Oscar Ghiglia, Pavel Steidl, Stefano Grondona, and Carlo Marchione.
He has performed in Italy, Mexico, Austria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Spain, and Peru both as a soloist and as a member of the Trio Nahual, an ensemble with which he maintained an intense concert activity, consistently receiving enthusiastic acclaim from audiences and critics alike. With the Trio, he has received multiple recognitions, including 12 first prizes in major national and international competitions, as well as the Medal of the President of the Italian Senate, Pietro Grasso, awarded in 2012 at the “Gaetano Zinetti” International Chamber Music Competition in Verona, and the Diploma of Merit from the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
He has served as professor of classical guitar and chamber music at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and at the National University of Music of the same country. In Peru, he also founded and directed the PUCP Guitar Orchestra, a pioneering national ensemble that brought together many young talents, playing a key role in both education and the promotion of repertoire for guitar ensembles, and receiving enthusiastic public and critical response at every performance.
He is a regular guest of various musical institutions, offering seminars, masterclasses, lectures, and participating in the production of recordings and video materials. His students have won prestigious awards in international competitions such as the Guitar Foundation of America Competition (USA), the Riviera della Versilia International Competition (Italy), and the Concurso Internacional de Guitarra de Taxco (Mexico).
Since 2022, he has been collaborating with luthier Elvis Pajares on the design of concert guitars
